SHEER DUMB LUCK + AWESOME UNDERSTANDING FRIENDS = MAKING IT OUT OF THE SEMESTER ALIVE

Somehow, despite the slump I fell into for at least a month of my first sophomore semester in college, I managed to come out with all A’s.  Sheer dumb luck had a huge role in this accomplishment, but luck didn’t help me bring home the good GPA this semester.  My friends did.  They put up with my “I’m a little black cloud of misery” crap for over a month, and they even kept me sane when I went through two especially horrible weeks of tests and papers due day after day with no reprieve.  It’s college, I know, and professional work life will not be easy by any means, but everyone goes through rough patches in life.  Hopefully, I’ll remember some of the things from this period and try to stop the next “crap patch” from happening in the future.

But, I still have my truly awesome friends to thank profusely, because I would’ve probably failed this semester and been reduced a sniveling little thing that thinks life is out to get her all the time, so on and so forth.  Thanks so much, guys!  You kept me grounded, and there is no way I can ever completely repay each and every one of you for what you did and will continue to do for me.

LOVE YOU GUYS (:

I JUST REALIZED I HAVE FREE TIME.

I wish I had that much free time…I have to start reading my books for Interim now…good thing they’re murder mysteries and not something boring!

Supernatural Woes

I’m not a professional writer nor have I been formally educated in creative writing or screen play writing.  My criticisms are based purely on my personal conceptions of certain fictional characters’ developments over the six seasons “Supernatural” has been running.

1. Dean’s allowed to be pissed off at Castiel’s behavior.  I understand that.  However, did he suddenly forget every bad Sammy’s done?  Sure, becoming “God” and drinking demon blood/starting the Apocalypse don’t hold candles to each other, but in both cases, some “family member” (a brother, if you will) betrays Dean’s trust in order to do what he thinks is RIGHT.  Sam starts the Apocalypse because he doesn’t listen to his older brother, but he also redeems himself in Season 5 by fighting tooth and nail to protect the world.  Castiel is trying to keep the Apocalypse from starting where it left off.  Sure, the angel didn’t make a great decision in dealing with a demon, but his goal (at first) is to protect the Winchesters and the rest of humanity, the same as his goal at the end of both Season 4 and throughout Season 5.  Neither of Dean’s “brothers” made the best choices in reaching for their goals, but at least their intentions initially were pure at heart.  Sam and Cass were attempting to do SOMETHING so that Dean wouldn’t have to carry the entire burden after returning from Hell/watching Sam have to jump into Hell.  Dean was a broken mess, and his “brothers” were left to deal with the weight of the world and the task of helping heal him, and they used any means necessary to do so (for good and for bad).

2. NO ONE EVER THANKED CASTIEL FOR EVERYTHING HE’S DONE FOR THEM AND THE REST OF HUMANITY!!!  The angel DIED so Dean could try to stop Sam from freeing Lucifer.  The angel was CAST OUT of Heaven because he didn’t want to see humanity annihilated by his wayward brothers and sisters.  The angel was KILLED YET AGAIN after he was all-but-human so Dean could try one last time to get through to his brother-turned-Lucifer’s-muppet and stop the Apocalypse from finishing.  Then, the angel was allowed to return to Heaven only to find out the angels weren’t done with the Apocalypse yet.  Castiel couldn’t turn to Dean for help because the man was too broken to be of any use, and the angel wasn’t strong enough to depose his brother Raphael as the ruler of Heaven since he wasn’t an archangel.  (Castiel also went in between Heaven and Earth every time Dean needed something; can’t forget that)  Castiel then gained the power to take on Raphael (by not so good means, unfortunately) and had to start a civil war in Heaven so humanity wouldn’t have to suffer through Apocalypse, take two.  Dean, Sam, and Bobby NEVER thanked Castiel.  NEVER.  And when they finally did, it was like “Yo Cass, you did all this awesome stuff for us.  Thanks.  By the way, you’re also doin’ some stuff we don’t really like (though we’ve all made deals with demons in the past, which apparently can be overlooked), so we’re gonna have to kill you now.  ‘Kay thanks.  Hope you understand *ignites the Holy oil*.”

3. While the object of any television series is to have a plotline that keeps viewers guessing until the season finale, I was confused the entire season.  We start off meeting this part of the Winchesters’ family that suddenly appeared out of the woodwork.  Where the hell did they come from?!  Then, we spend half the season trying to get Sammy’s soul back and figuring out why Grandpa Campbell is working with demon-king Crowley.  Not to mention the fact that there’s a civil war going on in Heaven since an archangel wants to “put the Apocalypse back on the rails” again.  In the first ten episodes of the season, there is one episode devoted to mentioning the war in Heaven as more than a matter for the angels, and there is no real mention of the war again until the final few episodes.  Then, before Heaven’s war is even really brought up as an issue, the brothers have to destroy “The Mother of All.”  WTF?  So far in the first half of the season, there’s soulless Sam, evil Grandpa Campbell, quarreling angels, and now there’s the “Mother” of all the terrible beasties Sam, Dean, Bobby, and all the other hunters have been going after since Season 1.  My head hurts just thinking about it!!

Finally, Grandpa Campbell and the other Campbells are killed off before half-way through the season (why were they even there…really, why?)  Then, Sam finally gets his broken soul put back in his body with a “wall” in his head that will keep him from remembering all the terrible things he did without a soul.  Next, the brothers take out “Mother” and find out that Castiel is working with Crowley, whom the angel supposedly killed early in the season, BTW.  The angel and the demon have found out the way to open Purgatory (beasty Heaven) and use all the souls in that space for power.  (Side note: we also find out that human and monster souls can be used by demons and angels for raw “power” at some point-don’t really remember when.  I can tell you when I can actually watch the season again and figure out what the hell is going on.)  Castiel then gets greedy and decides to take in all the Purgatory souls for himself to make himself “God” and kills off Raphael while Crowley turns tail and runs.  Still with me somehow?  Wonderful if you are.  Otherwise, I with all the confused ones out there.  Too many things happening in a short amount of time with VERY LITTLE EXPLANATION.  Grr…

4. God-complex much?  Sure, Cass never could find his Father during Season 5, but to attempt to become “God” is a bit too blasphemous for me, bad-Christian or not.  Castiel is not God, therefore he cannot play God, even if he thinks what he’s doing is justifiable since he’s “protecting humanity.”  Ugh…I don’t even want to think about it anymore.

I’m done.  Needed to rant somewhere, and the interwebz just happened to be the only place where at least one other person MIGHT know what I’m talking about.
